Our story

Once upon a time…

Those four words begin many tales, and ours begins the same way.

In April of 2017, in a quiet garage, there stood a single dresser. It was simple, but it carried the first spark of what would grow into something much larger than we ever expected. Our plan was small: sell a few pieces, make some extra money, and pay off a few bills.

But furniture has a way of multiplying when you love it. Within two weeks, the garage was overflowing. We moved into a bigger warehouse, still telling ourselves this was only temporary. It was just to hold a few more pieces. Nothing more.

Then came the words that changed everything:

"Let’s open a furniture store. It will be fun."

And so, with more faith than certainty, we tried. On June 8, 2018, we opened our first shop at the Shops at Rockvale in Lancaster.

In May of 2021, we opened a second location at the Outlet Shoppes at Gettysburg. That year was a whirlwind: two stores, countless deliveries, and more furniture than we could have imagined.

But two stores were not meant to be. In May of 2022, we closed Lancaster. Redevelopment of the property and too many unknowns made it clear that focusing on Gettysburg was the best decision. It wasn’t easy, but it was right. Our Lancaster Facebook page now lives on as part of our Gettysburg page, keeping those memories and the friends we made close.

Our love for what we do began long before any storefront. We spent years searching for pieces for our own home, chairs tucked away in barns, tables left in attics, cabinets forgotten in storage units. Each piece had a story. Each deserved another chapter. That is why Generations of Furniture exists: to find those items, care for them, and send them on to homes where they can be loved again.

This is our family’s story:

Barry, our spokesbear, is part mascot, part storyteller, and fully convinced he runs the place. He wears ties made just for him by Gramma M, proudly showing them off at markets and events. He has an ongoing obsession with peanut M&Ms and a pet, a small 3D-printed duck named Duck Norris, who often tags along on his adventures.

The third generation is Princess and Little Boss. They are our youngest helpers, but they hand out the biggest smiles to everyone who visits.

The second generation is Mr. B, the hunter of treasures, the one with a plan for every day and a soft spot for chairs. He is the reason this shop exists. He brought a dream and a goal to life. His wife, Boss Lady works behind the scenes, writing the posts, managing the pages and a bear, and finding joy in tea, books, and, thanks to Nana B, a growing collection of glassware.

And the first generation is Nana B, the heart behind Nana’s Corner. She keeps us organized, keeps us laughing, and somehow keeps us all moving forward. She also affectionately known as HR.

Our name, Generations of Furniture, tells two stories: one of furniture passed down through time, and one of three generations, and one bear, working side by side to carry those histories forward.

We hope you visit us. Maybe you will find a piece that feels meant for you, ready to become part of your home, your memories, and your story for years to come.
